Training Challenges are here!

6/11/2018

chal·lenge (ˈCHalənj)
noun
- a call to take part in a contest or competition, especially a duel.

This definition for "challenge" includes some words that go right along with fitness training (contest, competition). But there's another important word I'd like to focus on briefly:
duel
It brings to mind two opponents facing off with swords or guns, competing for the sake of honor at the cost of their very lives. I don't expect that scene to happen on our soccer field any time soon (hopefully not!), but you can apply that one-against-one combat image to these Training Challenges. How? By considering each challenge as a fight. Against yourself.

Becoming a competitive soccer player will require you to develop (or improve) your physical, mental and spiritual fitness. It will require you to do more than just show up on game day--you will need to train and prepare in order to compete safely at your highest level, enabling you to contribute to the overall success of your team. These challenges can be part of that training and preparation and by definition, they will be difficult, maybe more difficult than anything you have tried before. But you CAN do them.
The only person who can get in your way is YOU. In fact, the greatest challenge you will face in the coming weeks is that of overcoming your habits, your weaknesses, your excuses, your decisions about how to spend your time.

I am praying for each of you as we start this journey. It will not be easy, but it will be worthwhile.

IHSA State Tournament Wrap-up

10/8/2017

What a fantastic weekend of soccer and homeschool fellowship in Ft. Wayne!  Despite a rainy start, spirits were high with our players and fans.  Both the Boys and Girls teams came ready with their best efforts, resulting in some great successes...

Our young Boys Division 2 team lost its first match with Ft. Wayne Fusion, but turned things around to secure their first win of the season defeating Kokomo Eagles 3-0.  And the crowd went wild!!!  They followed up with a hard-fought 2-1 win against the Indy Warriors, securing an overall 5th place finish.  We're so proud of these fine young men!

The Lady 'Blazers defeated #3 seed Genesis United 2-1, and followed up with another win (1-0) against #2 seed Southside Thunder to advance to the CHAMPIONSHIP game, where they faced #1 seed Ft. Wayne Fusion.  They fought valiantly and held the Fusion to only 1 goal in the first half, finishing 2nd in the state.  This great group of young ladies certainly proved that they deserved to be in the Championship game.

In addition, two of our players were selected for the 2017 IHSA All-State Team:  Claire Soendlin and Elianna Grunden

Congratulations!!  And thank you for your leadership and example.

Special thanks to parents and families for helping to make this weekend happen!  Your behind-the-scenes support helped create a great experience, enabled some wonderful friendships to develop, and made our Trailblazer soccer family even stronger.

Trailblazers add a summer training camp experience for 8-11 year olds

7/6/2017

Coach Elizabeth Beasley will direct this Pre-Season Youth Camp that will focus on developing foot skills through fun games, age appropriate activities, and daily soccer challenges.  Young players are introduced to soccer basics (Ball Mastery- passing, receiving, dribbling, juggling, positive first touch) as well as learning about positions, attacking principles, and defending principles.

If you have an 8-11 year old who might be interested in playing soccer or who just likes to make friends, learn something new, and have fun, this may be the camp for you!  Camp will be held July 24-27 from 6-8pm at Brandywine Park, 900 E Davis Rd, Greenfield. Registration is open, and you can access the registration form on the homepage at: info@eastindytrailblazers.com.  Cost is $20 per player which includes instruction, snacks, and a soccer ball. A fall planning meeting was held on April 27 to prepare for Trailblazers' 2017 season. Coach Chris Grunden described his mission and vision for the team, which is to field both junior varsity and varsity teams for both boys and girls.  Coach Grunden has developed a pre-season training plan for team members and will begin sending out training challenges beginning in June.
